The Proposal- Temilade Series Pt. 4
A Peep in Temilade’s Past
Every time I have to speak to women who are dealing with life threatening marital times, my heart is cast back to the day he proposed to me. Hmm!
I know what you are thinking… No! I didn’t have all the chills you have heard or read about. Mine was rather simple. Maybe weird. Well, a bit weird.
You see, during my time, the whole big surprise proposal thingy was new in Nigeria, West Africa, where I grew up. Well, maybe it wasn’t. I am not sure again. I wasn’t thinking about marriage at the time. I was just serving God. Pastor Tade was some nice gentle man who was not loved by so many around him. He was not rich…okay, my mind says I should be truthful now so, here it is; he was poor! I wasn’t going to allow what I was seeing in 2009 deprive me from the glorious future we both saw through ‘the eyes of faith’.
I don’t really remember having any formal proposal. He told me he was going to get married to me when I was just 17, the first day we met. Yes, I was proposed to at the age of 17, just few months after I graduated from senior high. No ring, no song, no gift. Nothing! So, you see… I was not excited. Not even for a second. I just thought he was not okay.
One thing that drew me close to T-man, as Tade was fondly called, was his professed love for God and me. He did not fail to mention how much he was ready to shake the world for Jesus and make me happy by him, every time we spoke. I gradually began to like him. What more could a young 19year old virgin, who was raised to love God and His business, want in a life partner. Oh… the future seemed glorious. You could tell that I was too sure of happiness with Pastor Tade.
After going through all the hardships life had to offer Tade and I, I believe I was just a young girl without the right information. Today, I wish I had someone, another woman, to guide me properly. Take no thought about it, my mother was the best. She is the reason I am alive today. She gave me everything, Jesus!
But then, I needed someone, something, people…
Love,
